Following scrutiny of our two facilities in Wardle and Crewe by BRCGS inspectors, the company has been awarded ‘A+’ and ‘AA’ grades in the Storage and Distribution standard for the second year running.
The industry accreditation provides important benchmarking for logistics companies and their customers and recognises best practice and facilitates a process of continual improvement through well-designed, risk-based product safety management systems. It ensures the quality and safety of products during their storage and distribution throughout the supply chain. The grading scale is from ‘AA’ to ‘D’ and then Uncertified.
The ‘AA’ grade awarded to our newest warehouse in Crewe is the highest grade achievable under the announced audit programme and indicates no more than five specific matters requiring minor improvement. The warehouse opened in 2020 with 237,734 sq ft of ambient storage space. At our main base in Wardle, a 48-acre site with multiple warehouses, we received ‘A+’ certification which denotes between 5 and 10 minor changes required.
The ‘+’ mark added to the Wardle certification was awarded because officials arrived on-site unannounced to conduct the audit. This meant the company had no advance warning of the audit other than it could take place any time during the four months prior to the annual audit deadline date. Having no opportunity to prepare for the audit inevitably creates more pressure on businesses.
Both audits were managed by Senior Quality Management Audit Supervisor, Sarah Hall who co-ordinated the two-day audit at Crewe and the three-day audit at Wardle under a new standard recently introduced by BRCGS. On hearing the results, Sarah praised staff at both sites for their continual commitment to and support for food safety and quality control.
Speaking about the latest certifications, Warehouse Operations Director, Danny Earp said, “I really can’t praise our teams working at both Wardle and Crewe highly enough. Achieving these high grades, and against a new BRCGS standard, is an amazing result. Like many other logistics companies operating during these exceptional times, we have been under extreme pressure and have had to accommodate the many changes demanded by the pandemic.
“We have also experienced unprecedented levels of work over the last two years and the level of commitment and adaptability from our team has been exceptional. To deliver these high-level results under daily pressure is all about great teamwork.
“I would also like to pay tribute to Sarah Hall for her diligent management of the audits and her commitment to upholding the high standards across our two sites, including continually communicating their importance to our business and our customers.”
Due to increasing volumes, the company is running a campaign to recruit new members for their team in a number of areas of the business. Full details at: https://boughey.co.uk/jobs/current-opportunities/
