UKWA shortlists company for two awards

The company has been shortlisted for two national awards by UKWA (UK Warehousing Association), Britain’s leading trade organisation for the logistics sector.

UKWA’s Annual Awards recognise the extraordinary achievements of individuals and companies operating in the logistics industry and we have been shortlisted in the Infrastructure Project and Value Added Services categories. Winners will be announced at a lunch being held on Tuesday 28th June at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

For the Infrastructure Project Award which recognises a new or improved logistics building or logistics park development and/or investment that delivers extra capacity to the industry, we submitted details of our 237,734 sq ft warehouse in Crewe which opened in 2020.

After taking occupancy of the newly-constructed state-of-the-art facility, the company worked to a 28-week timeline to get the new facility fully-operational, requiring an investment of £2.29 million.
In spite of being hampered by the outbreak of COVID-19 when the ten-week warehouse racking installation programme was underway, the project was completed on time and on budget. The project plan included provision for lighting installation, IT infrastructure, racking installation, material handling equipment supply, health and safety requirements; construction of office and welfare facilities, gaining an Operator’s Licence, recruitment and stock transfer.

The company processes around 20,000 pallets a week through the facility, around 40% of the company’s overall volume.

For the Value Added Services Award which acknowledges the provision of services by logistics providers to fulfil consumer demands, the submission comprised details of our contract packing expertise including shrink wrapping, re-boxing, re-labelling, free-standing display unit assembly and re-palletising.

The submission also highlighted the company’s e-commerce operation which has expanded rapidly due to the huge surge in online shopping created by COVID-19.

Commenting on being shortlisted for the two awards, Warehouse Operations Director Danny Earp said:

“Being recognised for two UKWA awards is great news for us and we are very proud to have made been shortlisted. Both awards are due to our committed team of people: those who worked so hard to get our Crewe warehouse open under very difficult circumstances and our Value Added Services and E-commerce colleagues who deliver day-in day-out for our customers.

“Our business has been built on flexibility and agility, so value added services have always been an integral part of our offering. It’s all about creating value for our customers and putting on a service to save them money by using our infrastructure and expertise. Developing value added services has most definitely cemented positive partnerships with customers over the years and is an area of our business that we will continue to develop.”
