Tell us about your role:
After visiting Boughey in 1977, I decided it was the right place for me to work and I have been here ever since. After 46 years, I have been lucky enough to witness the company weather its rough patches and expand during its prosperous times.
When I started at Boughey, I was a general worker; I did whatever they needed me to do. I soon progressed to become a forklift driver and never looked back. I work on a rotating shift pattern: 6:00am – 2:00pm, and 2:00pm – 10:00pm.
Reflections on your loyal service:
The company has provided me with safe and secure employment for over 45 years; I never had to worry about the company going bust or losing my job. The most significant change has been the way the company utilises technology. When I first started, we checked stock levels from paper records. Now, the warehouse is a completely different place, with a significantly increased focus on safety, and even the trucks are kept up to date.
After 46 years, I have never thought about leaving; the shift patterns suit me and my lifestyle. I hope that I can continue working and become the first person at Boughey to achieve 50 years of loyal service.
