The New Transport Management System

Frequently Asked Questions

Benefits
What ultimately are we hoping to achieve with the TMS?

What was the reason for implementing the system now?

Data, IT & Reporting
Will IT be responsible for User Set up?

We are currently establishing the best structure for data and user management across all IT solutions, given the additional activity generated by the introduction of the new TMS. A decision around User set up responsibility for the new TMS will be made through that process.

Will IT be required to support the IT Hardware set up for the Tablets?

Yes, some support will be required, but Microlise will be providing support and expertise also.

Where do the scanned images of the POD’s go to?

We are just starting to look at POD scanning, and subsequent processes, which will include the data flows and implications for the systems they involve. We will work through the solution with Microlise and involved the Boughey IT team on any decision making accordingly

What reporting facilities will we have?

What master data needs cleansing?

Will the TMS system give us an opportunity to improve our load fill?

Will this give us greater visibility of our trailers and were it's located?

Driver Routes
Do we have to drive to the route given by the system?
What information is used to calculate times on drivers routes?

Does the Journey time used by the system take account of live traffic conditions?

Will the TMS build in breaks for the drivers?

How will failed loads be communicated?

This will be done by the driver as per now, but potentially utilising the tablet as well. The process for this will need to be determined.

Will the TMS geofence your arrival and departure?

Will there be a facility for drivers to give feedback regarding their routes?

Planning
Are Planning Regions staying as they are currently?

We are taking the opportunity to review the region set up in the planning system, to ensure we have the best approach. Grouping orders for planning is necessary to provide manageable areas to focus on, so the better these regions are, the better the plans will be.

Can we model scenarios in the new planning system?

Yes, we will have a test system that can be used for modelling scenarios.

Palletline currently manually plan 5 or 6 ‘special’ orders a day in SAP. Will this continue in the new solution.

No, the orders will need to come into the TMS for the Planners to plan, as per all other palletline orders. Once planned in TMS, the orders will flow back into SAP and the palletline system, ready for the Palletline team to plan.

Will we still be using shipment builder?

No, this system will no longer be used and will be completed through the Enterprise system

How are the Plans Optimised?

Will the TMS system have the ability to flag sensitive loads?

Yes It will, and we can adapt the system to add things like this should we wish.

How will schedulers know about the opportunities within backhaul?

Will the TMS system give us an opportunity to sweat the assets more?

Will we get feedback on the plans we create?

Will the system help us make things better and understand the bottlenecks within the operation?

Does the system use AI tools to build the routes?

Process
Will we be given SOP's for each task/activity?

Is the movement of containers included in the TMS project?

Will there be challenges back to the customer for lead time breaches, and rule breaches, so that we can get the best out of the new system?

Will there be integration with the Tru-Tach system?

I deal with the administration side in Transport, working with drivers. How will this change impact me?

We have options to filter things in Microlise currently but it's not enough for what we need, can you have more info showing within the new system?
