Mike Snee

Driver Trainer

Years worked with the company: 13

Tell us about your role: : After gaining a law degree, I enjoyed a successful career in the legal profession as a Barrister’s Clerk followed by 16½ years as Fraud Operations Manager for Bank of America.

Following redundancy, I decided to have a complete career change which saw me training to become a driver. My father had owned a shipping and haulage company based in Liverpool, so being on-the-road was something I knew plenty about and I’d always had a real passion for driving. I gained my Class 2 licence followed by my Class 1, drove for a while and then qualified as an Industrial & Commercial Instructor with the RTITB based in Telford. I am also a qualified Driver CPC Trainer.

I joined Boughey as a driver and four years ago took up the position of Driver Trainer in the Transport Compliance Team to support our team of drivers and with the initial aim of getting all driver CPC qualifications up-to-date. Supported by two colleagues, I manage driver assessment and inductions, training, CPC workshops and compliance.

What do you like most about working here? The people – they are lovely. The company is constantly growing and evolving which gives people the opportunity to expand their experience and take on new roles. As we grow, drivers will see increased benefits.

Why should drivers come and work here? It really is a great place to work. As we provide ambient storage, we offer good, straightforward work for drivers. Our aim is to take pressure off our drivers so that they can carry out their work safely and effectively.

Most importantly, the company does everything legally and completely by-the-book. We offer a supportive working environment for drivers, ask them to do the right thing and we don’t push them.

Our drivers are very much the ambassadors of our company and for people looking to progress their careers in our industry, there are many opportunities here.
