We are currently recruiting an Operations Supervisor for our Transport team at Wardle, Nantwich.

The role is responsible for overseeing the daily transport operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and high service delivery. This role involves direct management of drivers and operations coordinators, fostering a positive work environment, and maintaining operational excellence through proactive planning and problem-solving. Reporting to the Head of Transport (Operations), the Operations Supervisor ensures optimal fleet utilisation and adherence to safety and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement across transport functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight & Driver Management

  • Supervise and support drivers and operations coordinators to maintain smooth transport operations.
  • Ensure adherence to schedules, policies, and transport regulations, optimising fleet efficiency.
  • Monitor driver compliance with working time directives and tachograph regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with Driver Trainers to assess training needs and support continuous driver development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, remedial training, and investigations as required.
  • Ensure all driver documentation (licenses, CPC qualifications, etc.) is up to date and compliant.
  • Manage driver absence, holidays, and shift adjustments to ensure seamless operations.

 

Driver Engagement & Well-being

  • Foster a positive and supportive work culture, ensuring high engagement and job satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular driver meetings and feedback sessions, addressing concerns and providing guidance.
  • Recognise and reward high-performing drivers, promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Act as a key point of contact for driver concerns, resolving issues proactively.
  • Organize driver forums, well-being initiatives, and recognition programs.

 

Compliance & Safety Management

  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, vehicle checks, and PPE usage.
  • Oversee incident and accident reporting, ensuring proper investigations and follow-ups.
  • Enforce drug and alcohol testing policies, ensuring all drivers meet safety standards.
  • Support the business in maintaining Earned Recognition Status by ensuring full compliance with UK and EU transport regulations.
  • Conduct regular fleet audits, spot checks, and vehicle damage assessments.
  • Investigate and resolve any missing mileage or compliance infringements.

 

Resource & System Management

  • Oversee fleet availability, ensuring vehicles and trailers are maintained and defect-free.
  • Ensure efficient fuel management and inventory availability for smooth operations.
  • Maintain transport IT systems, ensuring proper data recording and reporting.
  • Manage and analyse vehicle and trailer downtime, implementing solutions for efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to service and MOT schedules as per fleet department guidelines.

 

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track and report on KPIs, including fleet utilisation, compliance adherence, and driver performance.
  • Identify and address performance or disciplinary issues, ensuring corrective actions where needed.
  • Provide operational reports to the Head of Transport (Operations), highlighting key insights and challenges.

 

Customer Service & Team Development

  • Ensure drivers uphold high service standards, maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the team to resolve service-related issues, enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Support onboarding and training for new drivers and operations coordinators.
  • Promote teamwork and continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and innovation.

  • Support and deliver on the Company mission, vision and live and promote the Company values.
  • Liaise with relevant internal stakeholders to maintain the highest standards with due regard to Customer requirements and in line with HACCP, BRCGS and any other internal or external legislation/audits.
  • To be aware of and adhere to the Company’s Health & Safety Policy. You will challenge the poor and promote good Health Safety Environmental practices by taking responsibility for the Health, Safety, environmental and welfare of yourself.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience in driver supervision, fleet coordination, or transport operations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Strong understanding of UK and EU transport regulations, including tachograph and working hours compliance.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and engaging driver teams.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) and fleet tracking software.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with drivers and management.
  • Proven ability to manage disciplinary and investigative procedures professionally.
  • Ability to motivate and support drivers, ensuring high performance and morale.
  • CPC qualification (desirable) or willingness to obtain one.
  • IOSH Qualification (desirable).

What we offer:

  • Location: Nantwich Road, Wardle, Nantwich, Cheshire, CW5 6RS.
  • Shift Pattern: 7am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Rate of Pay: £38,000 per annum – paid monthly.
  • Enhanced holidays of 33 days inclusive of bank
  • Option to purchase up to 5 days
